Depending on where you live around the world, you may be celebrating Arbor Day in April, June, or September. No matter where you are in the world, you can celebrate the wonder and beauty of trees every day! So here are some ways to celebrate this month.
Celebrate Arbor Day
Usually, the best way to celebrate Arbor Day is by planting a tree. Whether it’s in your yard or with a volunteer organization in the park, planting trees is what this holiday is all about. However, depending on where you live, it may not be the best time of year for you to plant. Between the weather and the condition of the ground, it could put too much stress on new trees. Fear not, here’s what you can do instead:
- Make a plan. Research the type of tree you want to plant and what conditions it likes best.
- Pick a spot. Make sure there’s enough room to accommodate the tree when it grows to its full size. There should be no utility lines in the way—above or below the ground.
- Clear the plot. If the perfect spot to plant your tree happens to be in the middle of an existing garden, you may need to rework your landscaping plan.
- Ask the experts. Discuss your plan with a certified arborist and determine the best time to buy and plant your chosen tree.
Cherish Your Trees
You can also celebrate Arbor Day by giving your trees extra TLC. Notice if it could use pruning. Is it leaning a certain way? Are leaves dropping early? How does the bark look? Discuss any issues with an arborist to make sure it’s as healthy as it can be.
However you choose to celebrate, take some time to be grateful for your trees and all the shade, beauty, fruit, flowers, and shelter it may provide.
